POTW to be RSS'ed

Since my earlier post I have decided that the POTW may be a better candidate
to try implementing RSS with. At the very least this will be updated every
Tuesday morning, just after the POTW has been selected by the system. Anyone
who subscribes to the feed will see the updates straight away. The RSS feed
will also be broadcast to a few sites (such as www.weblogs.com), which will
attract extra attention to Nfolio in turn.

Subscribing to the RSS feed will be simply be a case of clicking on an icon
displayed on every page of the site (probably in the left hand index).

RSS feeds for Nfolio

I shall start off by explaining what RSS is all about, by giving you an
example and then how we plan to implement it within Nfolio.

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" and it allows web sites to
publish extracts of their content in a universally readable format (XML in
fact). This technology is beneficial to every website that regularly updates
its content, since it provides a "snapshot" of what has been added or
updated.

Now consider Nfolio - It is constantly being updated and quite often, is
very hard to keep track of everything. I am planning on adding an RSS feed
to Nfolio that will broadcast updates to the discussions part of the site.
Later on this will be expanded to include all parts of the site but for now,
I shall keep it simple by implementing it for one part of the site.

Grab yourself a newsreader or visit href="http://www.newsgator.com">Newsgator Online to see what its all
about. You will find the Nfolio blog there.

Forums and photos to become RSS compatible

Currently this blog doesn't contain any of the Nfolio content, its merely an
additional part of the site. However we are planning to implement an RSS
feed for the main site, so that you can stay up to date with forums, new
photos, critiques and discussions... oh and also how the voting is doing...
and the Photo of the week.

Newsletter feature coming soon

I will soon be introducing a Newsletter to Nfolio, which will be sent out to
all members once a week (probably on Tuesdays to coincide with POTW). The
idea of the newsletter will be to encourage people to make more visits to
the site etc... You will also be able to forward your newsletter onto
friends and colleagues. In fact this is something we'll be encouraging you
to do, so that we can increase the user base dramatically, as we approach
2005.

Your feedback

Many thanks for your feedback everybody for Nfolio… All comments have been taken on board and a plan of action is now going to be made. This will result in a “spec” for improvements that need making to Nfolio and it will be available in Word format for all who wish to read it. This is a few weeks away yet though. After that we’ll have an online meeting about it.

Well done Jakub for your POTW

Just a quick well done to Jakub for getting this weeks POTW. Its our first nude POTW and its very good indeed.

Fancy writing for this Blog?

You may write for this blog if you wish, just send an email to info@nfolio.net and let me know what you'd like to write about.

Articles must be of interest to Nfolio members but needn't actually be about photography or Nfolio. I am open to your ideas.

Pick of the day

I have been surfing today and have found one or two interesting sites (some are also blogs). First up is a site called Complete Digital Photography and I thought that the articles on the new Adobe negative format were of particular interest.

Photo of the week

Well done to Þorsteinn H. Ingibergsson this week for his excellent photo entitled "Icy 3".

Thanks for your feedback

I would like to thank everyone for their feedback regarding what they think about Nfolio. Some great ideas are coming to light and are all being thrown into the pot!

The purpose of this Blog

Over a period of time I will be inviting a number of Nfolio members to join this Blog, the purpose of it being to talk about Photography and the sort of things that would be of interest to Photographers. Posts may just simply be thoughts, ideas, suggestions or from time to time longer articles. Let your creativity flow… Oh and one other thing, reviews are welcome too... Seing that Nfolio is a photo site, images are welcome here but obviously, thats best left to the main site itself, go there and take a look

Submitting posts by email

If I have added you to the Blog membership list (please email me to find out how, if I haven’t). You can make posts via email (I can, so I think you guys can).

RSS Feed

You may notice that this Blog is compatible with RSS readers, so that you can stay on top of the discussions and postings as they are submitted to the web log.

Welcome to the first post

This is the first post on a new part of Nfolio. If you know what Nfolio is, then you're fine, I needn't explain any further... If you've not heard of it, read on...

Nfolio is a photo critiques site, simple as that. Doesn't matter whether you're beginner, seasoned pro or aspiring amateur, we're keen to see your work. Critiques are written by members and not a panel.

There you go!
