Well done everyone and welcome to our new members

Its great to see the number of members is steadily increasing. On average we
are gaining about 1 new person every day sometimes more. This is fantastic
and the site certainly is very active at present and there seems to be very
little in the way of uncritiqued images, which is what I like to see. I am a
little worried about the quality of the critiques and have therefore started
writing some of my own again after a little break. Hopefully I'll give
people an idea of what I would like to see.

Pick of the day

I have been considering doing a "pick of the day" for this blog where I
choose an Nfolio image that I like a lot and write a little bit about it.

Selling photos online as prints

I have got an online gallery which has been very useful for selling prints to clients. I have setup a sample gallery that you can view. How about one for Nfolio?

Well done Craig

This weeks Photo of the Week was taken by Craig Paver and is a fine shot indeed. I would love to see the full-size version of this one.

Nfolio and Amateur Photographer Magazine

I think its great to see members of Nfolio (www.nfolio.net) having their
work published in Amateur Photographer magazine. We need to really push the
site forwards and we're definitely making progress. Now its time for the Big
Push....

Concert photography is under threat

One of the things thats making life increasingly awkward for concert
photographers are the silly rules being imposed upon us. I don't mind so
much being limited to a finite number of songs per gig, so long as its
reasonable but now there are cases where we are only allowed one song or
heaven forbid, the first 30 seconds of the first song!

This draconian attitude must stop otherwise photographers, agencies and the
rest of the media will no longer cover the events and consequently the music
industry will suffer.

I think its awfully sad the way things are going and personally, I will have
to draw the line at some point and turn my back on something that above all
I enjoy (or maybe used to enjoy depending on the mood I am in).

POTW - Well done Bragi

I would like to say a big "Well done" to this weeks POTW winner, Bragi
Ingibergsson. Go and visit the site to see the POTW and a lot more!

POTW to be RSS'ed

Since my earlier post I have decided that the POTW may be a better candidate
to try implementing RSS with. At the very least this will be updated every
Tuesday morning, just after the POTW has been selected by the system. Anyone
who subscribes to the feed will see the updates straight away. The RSS feed
will also be broadcast to a few sites (such as www.weblogs.com), which will
attract extra attention to Nfolio in turn.

Subscribing to the RSS feed will be simply be a case of clicking on an icon
displayed on every page of the site (probably in the left hand index).

RSS feeds for Nfolio

I shall start off by explaining what RSS is all about, by giving you an
example and then how we plan to implement it within Nfolio.

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" and it allows web sites to
publish extracts of their content in a universally readable format (XML in
fact). This technology is beneficial to every website that regularly updates
its content, since it provides a "snapshot" of what has been added or
updated.

Now consider Nfolio - It is constantly being updated and quite often, is
very hard to keep track of everything. I am planning on adding an RSS feed
to Nfolio that will broadcast updates to the discussions part of the site.
Later on this will be expanded to include all parts of the site but for now,
I shall keep it simple by implementing it for one part of the site.

Grab yourself a newsreader or visit href="http://www.newsgator.com">Newsgator Online to see what its all
about. You will find the Nfolio blog there.

Forums and photos to become RSS compatible

Currently this blog doesn't contain any of the Nfolio content, its merely an
additional part of the site. However we are planning to implement an RSS
feed for the main site, so that you can stay up to date with forums, new
photos, critiques and discussions... oh and also how the voting is doing...
and the Photo of the week.

Newsletter feature coming soon

I will soon be introducing a Newsletter to Nfolio, which will be sent out to
all members once a week (probably on Tuesdays to coincide with POTW). The
idea of the newsletter will be to encourage people to make more visits to
the site etc... You will also be able to forward your newsletter onto
friends and colleagues. In fact this is something we'll be encouraging you
to do, so that we can increase the user base dramatically, as we approach
2005.
